On Thursday, June 18, the Board of Directors for the McMaster Students Union, along with eager staff members, participated in the Hamilton YWCA’s 6th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event. The goal was to raise money for combating women’s poverty, homelessness, and violence by bringing together men, women, and families to Gore Park in downtown Hamilton. There, participants walked in high heels in order to raise awareness.

Update: Due to rain, CFMU Outside is postponed to Thursday, June 25 at the same venue.
CFMU Outside – a live event sponsored by CFMU – will hold its inaugural event on Thursday, June 18, from 6:30pm to 11pm. It will be hosted at the Jack & Lois Patio, located at 301 James Street North, every third Thursday of the month through September. There is no cover charge for this event, though attendees must be at least 19 years of age.
Thursday’s inaugural line-up features a live selection of CFMU DJs. Artists include Steve Francis (host of Dusted Off), Afternoons in Stereo (hosts of Urban Modernists), and Mother Tareka (hosts of Lace Up Radio).

The Silhouette’s first summer issue is now on stands, featuring a behind the scenes look at McMaster’s favourite hot-dog vendor, Jim Bontaine of Willy Dog. The cover story centers around the announcement of Willy Dog’s franchise expansion into a Westdale restaurant. The paper’s summer issues are published monthly, with weekly publication during the academic year. Pick up a copy on campus today, or read the PDF online here. The Silhouette is an editorially autonomous newspaper published by the McMaster Students Union.

Registration for the 2015 Horizons Leadership Conference is now open to incoming first-year McMaster students. The conference is set to run from Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9. Horizons is a 3-day, 2-night leadership-oriented campus experience aimed at engaging new McMaster students with lifelong leadership skills, providing first-year students with an introduction to campus and university life, creating opportunities for networking and peer support.

CFMU 93.3FM, the MSU’s non-profit community radio station, is celebrating its winnings after an impressive sweep at the 2015 Hamilton Music Awards, recently held on May 24. The awards were: Music Director of the Year (Radio), Ben Robinson; Radio Show of the Year, Lullabies in Razorland; Media Person of the Year, Kristin Archer; and Station of the Year. CFMU has now won Station of the Year for the eighth time since the inception of the Hamilton Music Awards in 2004.
