#MacVotes: Results of the 2018 Municipal Election

On October 22, 2018, the city of Hamilton, including McMaster’s student population, voted to determine the mayor of the city and the respective Ward Councillors. Fred Eisenberger was re-elected as mayor with 54% of the vote, while Maureen Wilson was elected as Ward 1 Councillor with 41.5% of the vote

A Culture is not a Costume

With one of the spookiest seasons of the year -after midterms- just around the corner, be sure to remember that the best costumes are one's that make everyone feel welcomed in all spaces. Costumes can mock or degrade a culture, ethnicity, race, or religion, and that is no fun! These costume may reinforce stereotypes, belittling the struggles endured by people who experience oppression. While you will be able to remove that costume at the end of the day, people who embody those social identities do not get that option. Have a safe, spooky, and stereotype-free Halloween!

Teaching Awards nominations are now open

The Teaching Awards Committee runs nomination periods throughout the year, providing students with the opportunity to nominate their favourite professors and teaching assistants (TAs) and recognize their distinction and contribution to the McMaster community. This term, the Teaching Awards nomination period will be open from Monday, October 29 to Friday, November 9.

The Student Representative Assembly unanimously motions to oppose dictate from MTCU

The Student Representative Assembly (SRA) has unanimously passed a motion calling on the provincial government to withdraw its dictate from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU), which would force post-secondary institutions to adopt a "free speech policy", under a threat of cutting funding to non-compliant institutions.
