As part of its democratic structure, there are dozens of student-led committees from which the policies, procedures, and practices of the MSU are created, modified, or rescinded. These committees cover a wide array of topics and interests. There are five committees that require student participation: Internal Governance Standing Committee, Services Standing Committee, Teaching Awards Committee, Clubs Advisory Council, and Elections Committee.

The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) will host its bi-annual General Assembly (GA) from October 29 – November 1, 2020. Decisions made at General Assembly are binding upon OUSA, and policies passed become representative of students across Ontario. OUSA’s non-partisan approach to provincial advocacy is student-driven and focused on creating policy recommendations that are both substantive and evidence based.

The Student Representative Assembly (SRA) welcomes nominations from MSU members (full-time undergraduate students), as well as recent graduates (who remain MSU members through the end of August 2020). Any one who wishes to run for the position can nominate themselves by email to the MSU Speaker via speaker@msu.mcmaster.ca.

On August 25 at 5pm, the MSU will host an open conversation with student and community leaders around the Black Lives Matter movement in Hamilton, and the subsequent calls to defund police systems. The panel will take place live, via the MSU Facebook page.

The McMaster Students Union supports the charitable and fundraising efforts of both student and community groups through the Sponsorship and Donation Committee. In addition, the MSU has launched a new Community Youth Bursary aimed at supporting the leadership development of youth in Hamilton.

All students are invited to a virtual town hall hosted by MSU VP (Education), Fawziyah Isah and MPP Sandy Shaw concerning the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on students.
