Nominations open for the by-election of the 2020/21 Vice-President (Education)

There will be a by-election held on September 13 for the position of 2020-2021 Vice-President (Education). The Student Representative Assembly (SRA) welcomes nominations from MSU members (full-time undergraduate students), as well as recent graduates (who remain MSU members through the end of August 2020). Any one who wishes to run for the position can nominate themselves by email to the MSU Speaker via speaker@msu.mcmaster.ca.

Nominations will close just prior to the SRA meeting of September 13 at 5pm. Though, any formal documentation, such as a platform outline, should be submitted by noon on Tuesday, September 8 to Daniela Stajcer via assistant@msu.mcmaster.ca, to ensure information is circulated among the voting members of the SRA.

The election process will be as follows:

Each candidate will have seven minutes to deliver an opening statement / presentation to the SRA
SRA members will then ask questions of each candidate, who will have one and a half minutes to respond
There will be questions directed to all candidates simultaneously, while some questions may be directed to a specific candidate exclusively
Five minutes will be given to each candidate for their closing statements.

Fawziyah Isah was elected in April, but due to personal reasons, will resign from the role in early fall. Along with the Board of Directors, Fawziyah will begin transitioning the incoming Vice-President (Education) immediately following the by-election. Fawziyah has achieved success on many of her advocacy platform points, including anti-Racism, tuition & financial aid, online learning, and COVID-19 support for students. The Board of Directors and associated staff will work to ensure these points continue as priorities for the organization.
