Student seats available for many MSU committees

September 17, 2020 at 09:00 am

As part of its democratic structure, there are dozens of student-led committees from which the policies, procedures, and practices of the MSU are created, modified, or rescinded. These committees cover a wide array of topics and interests. Their composition is shared by elected student leaders, and MSU members at-large. An at-large MSU member is simply a full-time, undergraduate student (enrolled in 18 or more unit). There is no experience in student government required.

The election of members to the numerous available committee posts will be conducted by the member of the Student Representative Assembly on September 27. The meeting will be held remotely via MS Teams at 5pm. Any full-time, undergraduate student can self-nominate for a committee seat. Nominations should be emailed the MSU Speaker, Rhea Jangra via speaker@msu.mcmaster.ca. If a nominee is not available for the date/time of the meeting, they may provide a written statement in lieu of attendance.

Though each committee will have different meeting times and expectations, the commitment is approximately once a week during the academic year. For more information on any Standing Committee, refer to Bylaw 3/B – Standing Committees of the SRA.

The committees with an open seat include:

  • Internal Governance Standing Committee
  • Services Standing Committee
  • Teaching Awards Committee
  • Clubs Advisory Council
  • Elections Committee
