Health and Dental Insurance info and opt-out deadline

Full-time McMaster undergraduate students (those taking 18 or more units) automatically receive coverage through the MSU Health and Dental Insurance plans. Beginning September 1 and continuing until August 31 each year, the plans offer benefits ranging from vision care to oral examinations. Further details of the plan can be found here.

Students must have alternative health and/or dental coverage to be eligible to opt-out of the MSU plans. Students who have existing coverage and wish to opt out of the MSU plans can do so during the opt-out period of September 1 to September 30. Click herefor more information on opting out.

This year, psychotherapist coverage has been added to the list of paramedical practitioners (combined with psychologist), as well as occupational therapist (combined with physiotherapist). Coverage for both continuous and flash glucose meters under diabetic supplies have also been added.

Regardless of whether or not a student remains in or opts out of either health or dental insurance, all students have access to additonal support through the MSU's Student Assistance Plan (SAP). The SAP is a benefit provided not only to McMaster students, but also their roommates and immediate family members. This free and confidential program includes psychological counselling and academic-life services, powered by Real Campus. Again, even if a students opts out of MSU Health and Dental Insurance plans, they can still access SAP.

Please note that there are no exceptions to the opt-out deadline of September 30.
