Student town hall regarding the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic

All students are invited to a virtual town hall hosted by MSU VP (Education), Fawziyah Isah and MPP Sandy Shaw concerning the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on students. Nominations open for the by-election of the 2020/21 Vice-President (Administration)

There will be a by-election held on July 12 for the position of 2020-2021 Vice-President (Administration). The Student Representative Assembly (SRA) welcomes nominations from MSU members, as well as recent graduates (who remain MSU members through August 2020). Anyone who wishes to run can nominate themselves by emailing the MSU Speaker via speaker@msu.mcmaster.ca.

Student seats available for many MSU committees

As part of its democratic structure, the MSU utilizes dozens of student-led committees from which the policies, procedures, and practices of the organization are created, modified, or rescinded. These committees cover a wide array of topics and interests. Their composition is shared by elected student leaders, and MSU members at-large. These committees will select new members on July 12.

Student Representative Assembly adopts comprehensive stance regarding McMaster's Security Services

At its June 14 meeting, the Student Representative Assembly (SRA), the highest governing body of the MSU, passed a motion calling on McMaster Unviersity to defund campus security, invest in racially and culturally diverse mental health support and harm reduction programs, and remove Glenn De Caire as Director of Security and Parking Services.

MSU Horizons hosting virtual transition sessions

Due to the challenging climate cause by the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person conference has been put on pause this year. However, Horizons is committed to help ease the transition for incoming students and will be using social media and online sessions instead.

Student health and dental benefit coverage extended through September 2020

The student plans traditionally cover the period from September 1 to August 31 each academic year.  For 2020, however, coverage will extend to September 30.  Therefore, a recent graduate will keep their coverage until the end of September 2020.  Students entering their second through fourth years, can use their 2019/2020 benefits for medical and dental costs until September 2020.  Thus, preserving the full amount of 2020/2021 benefit allotments to be used between October 2020 and August 2021.
