The lives of all Canadians have changed substantially within the past few weeks due to COVID-19. As the majority of students are studying and working remotely, the MSU and University are trying to adapt to ensure sufficient supports during this time.
As both the provincial and federal governments take steps to address the economic and social impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, students are looking for support. To that effect, both levels of government have agreed to a six-month, interest free moratorium on student loan repayments.
For folks who wish to nominate themselves for election as Speaker or one of the Vice President positions, please email the MSU Speaker (speaker@msu.mcmaster.ca) and provide a full name, a student number, and clear indication of which position they will be seeking by April 18, 2020 at 9:00am.
Everyone is encouraged to practice social distancing, which has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Social distancing does not mean that no one cannot go outside their home, but rather refers to minimizing close contact with other people, including keeping a distance of two metres away from others at all times
Amid the operation changes due to COVID-19, the MSU is committed to offering continuing support through the Health & Dental Insurance Plan, the Student Assistance Plan, the Emergency Bursary Fund, and the HSR Bus Pass.
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, McMaster in-person classes ended Friday, March 13 and no in-person exams will be held during the rest of this semester. Faculty are expected to communicate updates to students about how the courses will proceed. The University remains open but some campus operations have changed.
